South Whidbey State Park

Sept 2007

I took this weekend trip on labor day weekend 2007. I had never been to this campground previously. I took the Washington State ferry over to Clinton.  I had the option, of course, of driving around. Whidbey Island is 62 miles across and 12 miles thick. This makes Whidbey the second longest Island in the continental US. There is a bridge on one side of the island to the mainland. This bridge is known as Deception Pass bridge. For me to drive around would take me over 2 hours. Since the ferry is only 15 minutes, it's much faster and saves on gasoline.

I rated the campground a 6 out of 10.  Almost a 7. They had some nice trails around but the beach access was closed so that took some away from the score. Also, their utility sites where not secluded at all. Many (most?) of their non-utility sites were very secluded and some had views of the water. Kevin and Jackie didn't like the park as well as I did but that could be due to the fact that they had noisy neighbors which would make most anyone give a lower score.

This is my campsite, site 36. It was small but not too bad. One problem was that it had a trail leading into the back of it which gave a view of the parking area.

The tarp in the background was placed in front of the trail.

Campsite 20 was a fine site except no utilities

Kevin brought a ton of firewood!

Kevin and Jackie are a little picture shy.

This is Kevin letting me know how he felt about me taking his picture.

This is Kevin moments later chuckling.

Campsite 21. Another fine site except no utilities.

Campsite 29. Very secluded and long parking area.

Campsite 24 seemed to be a great campsite.

Site 23 was another good campsite however a little more exposure to the road than I like

This is site 24. It is another secluded site. As I wrote above, most the non-utility sites are very nice. A small percentage of them are too close to another campsite but on average, I'd say the majority of the non-utility sites are awesome.

This is a picture of my new LCD flat screen I recently installed in my RV. I love it! Click here to find out more.

Rabbits abound in the park.

This was a scary looking one.

Real park map.  Unfortunately, the map that the park uses online is not very accurate. The left side was cut off by accident but it's a good map as far as site spacing for what you can see.
